As Team RMS looks back over the last 12 months, we have achieved some major milestones and added some great improvements to our programs. Here is a summary that explains some of these improvements.

Expansion of Remote Support Services:

In 2024 Team RMS launched a new service delivery model. This new model is known as remote support services and it leverages a range of advanced internet and video technologies. Currently, Team RMS provides remote support service in the Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo and Cleveland metro areas. More locations are planned in the future.

As a service, remote support offers a transformative approach to caregiving. These services are designed to enhance safety while promoting greater independence, marking a significant step forward in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

The program is part of Ohio’s implementation of the Technology First initiative which was enacted in May 2018. This new initiative prioritized and enhanced access to technology for individuals with developmental disabilities. The order calls for a collaborative effort between the state department and county boards of developmental disabilities to incorporate technology into all service and support plans.

By utilizing tools such as live video feeds, motion sensors, and two-way communication systems, individuals can carry out their daily routines with the assurance that help is readily available if needed. This approach fosters greater autonomy, which is essential for improving quality of life and encouraging personal development.

This newer service delivery model also uses assistive technology, which represents a pathway to greater freedom and autonomy; enabling a richer and more independent life. Assistive technology has long been recognized as an essential resource in elder care, particularly in supporting “aging in place” initiatives that benefit older Americans.

Recently, this well-established technology has also been adopted by individuals with developmental disabilities, offering new opportunities for support and independence. By leveraging smart and electronic devices, assistive technology provides innovative solutions to enhance the safety, well-being, and independence of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Combined with the use of assistive technology, remote support services strike an important balance—enhancing safety and independence while respecting privacy and helping to manage costs. As technology continues to evolve, the potential for more personalized, efficient, and inclusive care grows, further enriching the lives of those receiving support.

The Ohio ADS Quality Pilot Program:

Team RMS is part of the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) ADS Quality Pilot Program. The ADS Quality Pilot Program is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities by introducing personalized and innovative support strategies into their daily lives.

Focusing on adult day support services, the program provides participants with tools to strengthen their independence, engage more actively in their communities, and build meaningful relationships while empowering them to advocate for themselves.

RMS of Ohio has used funding from the program to provide devices such as interactive smart TVs at our Adult Day Support (ADS) locations.

The main goals of the ADS Quality Pilot Program include:

  • Cultivating essential life skills to promote greater independence.
  • Encouraging active involvement in community activities.
  • Strengthening relationship-building abilities.
  • Supporting self-direction and advocacy among participants.

About Our Adult Day Programs:

At every RMS adult-day support location, we offer a variety of social, recreational and habilitation services designed to meet the unique needs of each individual we support. Our programs provide enriching opportunities for individuals to learn, connect, and engage, both within our facilities as well as in the surrounding community.

As an Ohio-based provider agency, we are dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities through personalized services that honor each person’s unique needs and aspirations. Through our hands-on adult day programs offered by RMS of Ohio and RMS Inc., we create tailored experiences designed around the passions and abilities of each individual.

Our person-centered approach focuses on fostering growth and learning, providing meaningful care that empowers adults with disabilities to thrive. Understanding that every journey is unique, we collaborate closely with participants, families, and support teams to develop personalized plans that align with individual goals.

Rooted in Ohio, we take pride in creating a warm, inclusive environment where participants can flourish. Our dedicated staff ensures each person receives the care and attention they deserve, celebrating moments of joy and achievement along the way.

New Mobile Tablets for HPC and ICF Staff:

We are gradually updating the mobile tablets that are used at many of the RMS of Ohio and RMS Inc locations. These mobile devices are used by staff in our Supporting Living (also called homemaker personal care or HPC) and Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs) locations. These new tablets will greatly help our staff with documenting their delivery of care services. For provider agencies, detail documentation records are required by law.

A few of the benefits from the use of these new tablets include:

  • Improved performance, connectivity and battery life.
  • Compatibility with newer software and digital tools.
  • Better display, durability and security features.

About Our Supported Living and Intermediate Care Facilities:

Supported Living is a personalized service aimed at empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to live independently in their own homes or apartments. Unlike traditional group home environments, this service is customized to meet each individual’s unique needs and preferences.

Its primary focus is to support individuals in engaging with their community, participating in daily activities, and making their own life choices; all while providing tailored assistance as needed.

Supported Living services through Team RMS are currently available in the following locations:

  • Toledo Area (Lucas County)
  • Cleveland Area (Cuyahoga, Lorain and northern Medina Counties)
  • Lima Area (Allen, Auglaize and Putnam Counties)
  • Columbus Area (Franklin, Fairfield and Delaware Counties)
  • Dayton Area (Montgomery, Butler and Greene Counties)
  • Cincinnati Area (Hamilton, Warren and Butler Counties)

Our intermediate care facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities (ICF/DD) serve individuals with more significant physical, medical, and/or behavioral needs that require 24 hour a day care and support. Our six ICF/DD group homes house eight individuals in each home to allow for a more family-like setting. Currently, all of our ICFs are located in the Cincinnati metro area.

Our services and programs are provided in a wide variety of community settings. We offer the individuals that we serve experienced clinical, medical, behavioral and personal supportive services.
