At Team RMS, we are proud to support individuals with developmental disabilities in their journey toward achieving their personal goals and living fulfilling lives.
Recently, we were honored to see that many of the people we serve from our RMS of Ohio locations compete in the Ohio Special Olympics. This is an inspiring event that showcases not only athletic abilities but also the incredible determination and spirit of individuals across the state.
The Ohio Special Olympics is a platform where athletes with developmental disabilities come together to compete, celebrate their strengths and build friendships.
Overall, Special Olympics strives to improve inclusion within the larger society through the use of sports, health education and leadership programs. The goal is to empower people with developmental and intellectual disabilities throughout the state of Ohio as well as across the United States.
The overall mission is to use the power of sports so that people with disabilities live active, healthy and fulfilling lives. This is a true celebration of inclusion, community and empowerment. We are thrilled to share the amazing experiences of those who represented Team RMS in this year’s games.
The Power of Participation:
For the individuals we support, participating in the Ohio Special Olympics is about much more than just winning medals. It’s about setting goals, working hard, and celebrating personal achievements. Through months of preparation, these athletes trained in various sports, from track and field to swimming, basketball, and more. Their dedication and commitment are nothing short of inspirational.
Each athlete brought their own unique story and passion to the games. Whether it was their first time competing or they were seasoned veterans, they showed courage and perseverance. We had the privilege of supporting these athletes every step of the way—from their early training sessions to cheering them on at the competitions.
A Shared Celebration:
Across the world, Special Olympics has over 46,000 sporting competitions a year in 177 countries and jurisdictions. The competition that takes place in Ohio is only a small piece of the Special Olympics community.
What makes the Ohio Special Olympics so special is the sense of community that it fosters. Family members, friends, volunteers, and staff all come together to support and celebrate the athletes’ accomplishments. For our team at Team RMS, being part of this community and seeing the individuals we serve excel in their chosen events fills us with pride and joy.
This year, some of our athletes achieved personal bests, while others made incredible new friendships. For all of them, the experience was unforgettable, and we are immensely proud of their hard work and achievements.
More Than Just a Game:
The Special Olympics is about breaking down barriers and showing the world what individuals with developmental disabilities can achieve when given the opportunity and support. About Team RMS:
Team RMS has four decades of experience in the disability services field, providing support to individuals who need assistance with daily living due to an intellectual, developmental or cognitive disability. Our community living services provide a comprehensive range of high-quality services which include: remote support, adult day programs, supported living, intermediate care facilities, institutional respite and specialized services for adults with autism.
Our programs combine personal choice and community integration, while ensuring professional oversight, family involvement and stability. Our services and programs are provided in a wide variety of community settings. We offer the individuals that we serve experienced clinical, medical, behavioral and personal supportive services.
