MORE INDEPENDENCE
|
|
When most people think about
independence they think about a place of their own, the
opportunity to make choices and the right to plan their own
future. At RMS we give people with disabilities the
assistance they need to enjoy that kind of independence while
staying safe and healthy.
- Many of the people RMS serves live in their own apartments —
usually with one or two housemates.
- They make their own choices about meals and activities with
guidance and assistance from direct support professionals who
truly care about them.
- They participate in regular planning sessions that help them
move toward the kind of future they want.

“Before RMS I lived with my folks, which was OK
but I wanted to be on my own. Now I have my own place, my own
friends and I have a great job, too! I even go and talk to the
people who run RMS so I can tell them what people like me
want.”
Jackie Lavergne, who has been receiving RMS services for
over five years, is a member of the RMS Management Board |
